ARROW External Research Grant Review Program

The ARROW initiative offers this service to MUSC faculty by coordinating a review with and providing a stipend to an expert in your field of study (outside of MUSC) to conduct an NIH-style, in-depth review of your research grant application. This includes all types of external research grant mechanisms (NIH, VA, DOD, etc.).

To take advantage of this program, please submit a request for external review by completing the form below at least 6 to 8 weeks prior to your grant submission deadline. Your request must include the following:

  • A completed grant application (including Specific Aims, Research Plan, Literature Cited, and Abstract/Narrative).
  • If the application is a resubmission, you must also include the summary statement from the previous submission and the introduction addressing reviewers’ concerns.
  • A copy of the grant application instructions (PA/RFA announcement).
  • A copy of your biosketch.
  • The names and email addresses of 2 to 3 external experts in your field (outside of MUSC) to serve as potential reviewers.

We strongly encourage you to submit your request as early as possible to ensure sufficient time for us to identify and coordinate with a reviewer, for the reviewer to conduct a thorough review, and for you to revise your application prior to the submission deadline.

To help us evaluate the effectiveness of this program, you will be required to complete a brief satisfaction survey upon completion.

For questions, please contact arrows@musc.edu. Support for this program is provided by the Provost and the College of Medicine.
